OVERVIEW

 

The course is designed to provide a comprehensive review of current concepts in the management of cardiovascular disease for practicing physicians, physicians in training and other healthcare providers. It includes live case demonstrations and practical workshops in cardiovascular procedures. The program brings a world class cardiology symposium including life cases to physicians in training and other health care professionals who may not be able to travel to other parts of the world where such conferences are more commonly held.

 

The topics covered would include Heart failure, Coronary Artery Disease, Valvular disease, Cardiac Arrhythmia and Cardiovascular disease prevention. At the completion of the course, the participants should be able to apply the newly acquired knowledge in the care of their patients and understand the appropriate utilization of newer diagnostic and therapeutic modalities in the management of cardiovascular disease.

TARGET AUDIENCE

 

The Symposium is intended for Cardiologists, Cardiologists in training, Cardiovascular Surgeons, Primary Care Physicians, Nurses, Cardiovascular Technologists, Pharmacists and other Allied Health Professionals.

 

ACCREDITATION

 

The University of Lagos Medical Center designates this educational activity for a maximum of 15 CPD units. The University of Lagos Medical Center is approved to provide continuing medical education for physicians by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

 

The goal of the Symposium is to provide attendees with knowledge of the most recent advances in the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease which can be used to improve the care provided to their patients.

 

At the end of the Symposium, the attendees should be able to do the following:

 

  • Understand the current management of patients with heart failure.
     

  • Understand the diagnosis and management of stable ischemic heart disease.
     

  • Review the best strategy for management of acute coronary syndromes in the Nigerian setting.
     

  • Review the best strategy for the management of supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias.
     

  • Understand the best strategy for management of patients with heart valve disorders.
     

  • Understand the best strategy for management of cardiomyopathies.
     

  • Understand the best strategy for the prevention of cardiovascular disease.
     

  • Understand the diagnosis and treatment of the most common forms of congenital heart disease in adults.
